Simultaneous Interpreting

Unlike consecutive interpreting, in which an interpreter works in a sequential manner, simultaneous interpreting requires an interpreter to listen and render the translated message while a presenter is speaking.  This type of interpreting is most often used in large conferences, seminars, or assemblies in which a single person addresses a group.

As a presenter is speaking, the interpreter will listen while inside a soundproof booth and interpret into a microphone so that the audience members may follow the speech as the translated message is transmitted through headphones. Due to the strenuous demands of simultaneous interpreting, interpreters usually work together in teams, with each  member interpreting for only 15 to 30 minutes at a time before pausing; such breaks are necessary to maintain quality and accuracy.

Should you require the use of a simultaneous interpreter, Geneva Worldwide will draw from its global pool of highly qualified and professional interpreters who have received specialized training in the field. In addition, we can coordinate all interpreting-related activities for your event as well as provide any needed equipment. Geneva can also provide interpreting services during extended or after-business hours. For more information, please feel free to contact us.
