Geneva Worldwide Is One of the Contractors That Will Continue Providing New York State with Its Language Services

The translation and interpretation company is proud to continue working alongside other contractors in an effort to support non-English speakers with services like closed captioning and over-the-phone interpreters.

NEW YORK CITY, New York, January 6, 2022 – Geneva Worldwide, a translation and interpretation company based out of New York City, is proud to announce that they have been awarded one of the contracts to provide New York State with its language services (Contract Number Award #23253 for Language Services – Temporary Personnel [Statewide]). Geneva Worldwide has been filling this role for almost two decades, and the latest contract renewal extends their continued commitment to the state for five more years.

Under the new award, which is considered a Centralized Backdrop Contract, any state agency can turn to Geneva Worldwide or the other contract recipients for a host of language services. Geneva in particular will be assisting with everything from written translation to subtitling. They will also be providing American Sign Language interpreters, video remote interpreters, and over-the-phone interpreters.

This contract was awarded with momentum from Governor Kathy Hochul, who announced the new “Office of Language Access” to oversee the codified and expanded State Agency Language Access Plans. This nation-leading policy aims to build on and improve Language Access Services for New Yorkers who have limited English proficiency. It also requires state agencies to translate vital documents into the 12 most commonly spoken non-English languages in the state.

The statewide language access policy was codified as part of the 2023 Enacted Budget reinforcing New York’s role as a national leader in language access. This move also fulfilled one of the commitments that Governor Hochul made in her 2022 State of the State agenda, making it easier for all New Yorkers to benefit from every service and resource New York state has to offer. Eliminating language barriers supports immigrants and others who are trying to build better lives for themselves and their families.
